Barrhead Gala Day 1988.

Barrhead Gala Day in 1988 was one of the most successful helped mainly by the great weather and the combination of the World Pipe Band Championships. It began as usual with the float procession up Cross Arthurlie Street and along the Main Street led by the Neilston & District Pipe Band and to Cowan Park. The activities began with the crowning of the Gala Queen and followed by the Bonny Baby Competition, the Pillow Fight and the always popular inter-pub Pram Race. Elsewhere in the park footballers and bowlers were competing for the Gala trophies then the day ended with a mass march by all the pipe bands and a salute to the Chieftain of the games, Isobel Duncan.
