Armitage Shanks Factory Feature 1977.
The Barrhead News was given access to photograph the production of its sanitary ware and fittings at it's factory in Victoria Road in September 1977. Founded by John Shanks his first factory, named the Tubal Works, was in the town's Main Street mainly producing pipes, taps and fittings. In 1899 the family decided to diversify and built a new factory mainly to manufacture porcelin sanitary ware and this was named the Victoria Pottery where the photographs below were taken.
